Moore from The Underground

In a recent post we looked at a 4 page underground strip written and illustrated by Alan Moore (as Kurt Vile) for Sounds music paper in 1982.

In this follow up feature I'd like to share a couple more Moore strips.

Firstly another Vile 'Axel Pressbutton' strip, this time from Warrior magazine. 

This strip originally appeared in Sounds magazine (though presumably without the Steve Dillon illustration from Warrior #1)

Alan Moore: Underground Cartoonist.

You probably know him best as one of the most lauded writers in the field but Alan Moore is also a talented underground cartoonist.

One of his most famous works as an illustrator, working under the pseudonym 'Curt Vile,'was "The Stars My Degradation" a weekly strip which ran in Sounds music paper in the early 80ies & scripted by Moore's pal Steve Moore (no relation), working under the pseudonym 'Pedro Henry'.

At a 2000ad signing session (probably this one from 1983) I was lucky enough to get Moore to sign this 4 page special, and even have him to sketch Axel Pressbutton for me on a blank playing card he was surprised that anyone would want him to do a sketch but graciously obliged
